Manic Monday: 8 things a woman should have

About half way through the day on a Monday is usually the time that my motivation for work starts to slip, and I begin to lose focus on what I’m supposed to be doing. In order to clear my mind and get myself back on track, I allow myself 15 minutes to do something that is not work related cleared out my head and get ready to work again.  Today while on my mini break I came across a blog post by the beautiful Emily who runs the blog Cupcakes and Cashmere. The post was in response to an article entitled 8 things every happy woman should have, which looked at 8 different and fun things a woman should make sure she has in her life. They may come off slightly silly and a little shallow. But like it states in her post it is important to take a minute to just look at who you are and what you like in your life at that moment. (It will also be fun to look back on this in a year and see if/how many things may have changed by then!).

8 Things Every Happy Women Should Have:

A signature drink:

This one is harder than it sounds because it really depends on where I am going and what kind of mood I am in. If it is fall pumpkin beers will always win if they are on tap. If not and I’m in a beer mood then a Blue Moon or Shocktop would be my next choice. When it is time to pull out the big guns, it will always be a Jack and Ginger with a lime.

A go to karaoke song:

Over the last four years karaoke has pretty much become a staple in my life. My go to songs when I’m not singing with Jaime are: Shadows of the Night, I Think We’re Alone Now, and Hey Jealousy.

A uniform:

On a casual day I’ll go for skinny Jeans, Tank Top/Tee Shirt (depending on the season), black bomber jacket, Sneaker Wedges,  and Statement Jewelry.  On a girls night out that is a little more fun I’ll head to the black body con skirt and a loose fitted top with heels.

Hairstylist they love:

This one is actually missing from the list since I have just moved and have only gotten my hair cut once since then. If anyone knows of someone great in Huntsville please let me know!

A hobby:

Blogging, crafting, writing, and photography (these are all relatively new hobbies.. but you have to start someplace right)

A work out plan:

Currently it is Barre 2 times a week, running 2 times a week and yoga once a week.

A best friend:

I could never just pick more than one best friend. I feel like that is not a fair statement to make because I have so many people who are in my life that deserve that title.  Yet if I had to pick it would  look like this, the Upstanding Citizens, The High School Posse, and the new ladies of my BamaCrew. And of course miss Lindsey and Christina who have been around since high school (aka stuck with them forever)

A healthy sense of self:

This is forever a work in progress. But it is important to have learned that there are some things that I will never be no matter how much I wish for them to be true. I’m never going to be a rich or a doctor or a movie star, hell I’m never going to be normal height. But that is ok, because I am awesome.

And I am going to add one of my own:

A Signature Color:

I think every woman should have a color that they know they look amazing in not matter what and make sure she wears it whenever she need that extra boost of confidence. For me, it is a cobalt blue

Haunt-tastic Halloween

Over the last few weeks Halloween has pretty much consumed my life. I knew what I wanted to be but I also knew I did not want to spend a ton of money on a generic looking costumes. Which is how I ended up turning

Into this!:

About 5 hours of work and so much glitter went  it to transforming myself into one of my favorite characters TINKERBELL. But I will say all the work was worth it. Between rocking outside  at the HYP event at 3 caves and taking over the karaoke room at Rush this was a great way to spend my all time favorite holiday. Totally  worth the day long hangover.

especially when you have these two crazy ladies to spend it with!

Ps: Shout out to the Huntsville Young Professionals for putting on such an amazing event, I already cannot wait until next year.

A girl should be two thing…

I feel that there is no situation in life that cannot be summed up by my all time favorite quote by CoCo Channel. She stated that a girl should be two things, classy and fabulous and this weekend we lived up to her words.

A new friend threw a “Classy Party” this past weekend. As someone who has thrown a number of themed parties with Miss J, I (thought) I knew how these things usually go down. You’ll have a few very close friends take the them seriously and then a bunch of people who just show up totally out of theme. I am happy to say that this is not what happened. EVERYONE looked beyond fabulous and really just played up this idea of being classy as hell!

Classy Ladies.. and the ever classic photobomber

Case of the Mondays..

Monday is a rough day. You’re still recovering from the weekend and not fully motivated to do anything at work. And for those of us not Furloughed, we get to sit around and read all the Facebook updated of everyone’s Furlough-cation. But instead of being bummed about not having Columbus Day off or it being Monday in general, I decided today’s post should be about things that are awesome.

  •      Pumpkin Spiced Chai Tea Latte

Move over PSL and make some room for the PSCTL (ok so maybe that does not work as well. But I’m working on it!) Surprisingly there are actually some days in the world when I don’t want coffee, but would still like to enjoy that deliciousness that is Pumpkin Spiced flavoring. So when I discovered there was a CHAI LATTE that allowed me to blend in my favorite fall obsession, I was instantly hooked. I got mine at a local coffee shop here in Huntsville. But I’m sure if you talk to your Starbucks Barista (because we know you’re on a first name bases by now) they may be able to create this for you.

  •     Halloween

Saying you don’t like Halloween is like saying you don’t like puppies or rainbows or happiness in general. It is the only times of the year when it is socially acceptable to play dress up for as many weekends as you want. It is also the only time a year when you can scare the shit out of as many people as you want and no one can get mad at you. Because it’s Halloween and that is how we roll.

  •  Feeling Creative

Going along the lines with Halloween coming up, it means it is also time to start getting a costume ready. This year I threw away the idea of buying a costume that about 15 other girls will probably also be wearing. Because really what fun is that? I decided to put a DIY spin on one of my favorite characters to pretend to be and I must say I’m pretty excited.

  •   Once Upon a Time

Make fun all you want but I’m obsessed with this show and everything about it. And it doesn’t hurt that they are in Neverland this season. Oh and the fact that there is now a Once Upon a Time in WONDERLAND. Please ABC, keep bringing all my favorites on your station.

  • Snap Chat Music Wars

I don’t really know how this started, but I’m so glad it did. Miss J and I have pretty much taken to Snap Chat to send music clips to one another. The only (unspoken) rules are that the songs have to be totally random. Like these are not songs you would hear on the radio ALL the time. And of course that it has to be on the radio and not a CD/IPOD. See Snap Chat is not  just for cheating.

  •    Radio BDC

Let’s be real here, so far the music scene in Bama has not been up to my (musically snobbish) expectations. I have seen some bands play but it is nothing like being home. The radio stations I have found are pretty much oldies, top 40’s, rap, or country. And with that Radio BDC to the rescue! Thanks to the wonders of live streaming music, I can sit at my desk all day and pretend that I am still back in Beantown. And it does not hurt that Adam 12’s voice makes me swoon.

  •   Only 17 days until all the delicious Halloween candy goes to 50% off!
it started out with a kiss...

This pretty much sums it up how I will feel on November 1st

So for those of us who have to work today: Forget having a “Case of the Monday’s” and enjoy the better things in life. And if that does not work, Friday is not THAT far off.

Goodbye Summer, Hello Fall..

This past week has been a weird roller coaster of emotions. It has been a lot of worrying about my job/pay due to the Furlough and stressing about money. Then add in almost getting in a car accident and trying to figure out how you belong and it is surprising that my head hasn’t exploded yet. But with the help of the start to my favorite month and a little support from a new, but very inspiring, friend I have decided to stop waiting to find out how I fit in here, and just start getting involved and just doing more things. So October is being re-named my month of “Yes” (and YES I’m aware of how corny that sounds). This month if asked to do something, go somewhere, or try something outside my comfort zone- the answer will be yes!(as long as it is not something TOTALLY outrageous or something I cannot financially or physically do).

Along with that I am bringing back the Fall-Venture bucket list! This is something I created maybe about three or four falls ago as a list of things I want to do before the end of the most amazing season ever.

So for your reading pleasure the 2013 Fall-Venture list

  • Pumpkin Carving
  • Favorite Halloween Movie Marathon
  • Make Apple Cider Sangria
  • Hiking- WITHOUT getting lost!
  • Carmel Apple Making Date
  • See a Scary Movie in theaters (Carrie! )
  • Fall Themed Baking Night
  • Find and Explore a “Haunted” Area
  • Go to the Pumpkin Farm
  • Read a Stephen King Novel (I won’t lie I have only read like 2 of his short stories and was not impressed. But I figured I’d give a novel a shot.
  • “Nightmare Before Christmas “movie night!

I’m excited for the upcoming adventures that October will bring!
